Rudy was one of five stray puppies living in the woods. Florida Urgent Rescue spent three weeks trapping the puppies and had begun the process of finding homes for them. Rudy was returning to his foster family form a sleepover at a potential adopter when he bolted into the dark..

Mike Merrill, the founder of F.U.R., made the water rescue on the Intracoastal on Monday.

FUR spent three days tracking him, with the only access by paddle board from the water. They set up a trap covered by a wireless trail camera, and successfully trapped him on Monday. The only way to bring him back across the river was in the trap, on a paddle board.

They strapped a life jacket to the trap, with a safety line held by another rescuer, while they paddled across the Intracoastal. Rudy is now back home and safe in his foster home.
