One of the best things about producing your own stuff at home is you know exactly what you’re getting in the end. No hidden ingredients to worry about.

The second best part is the self-satisfaction that comes with doing something good for yourself. That’s how I feel about everything coconut. I’m more than a fan of this furry nut. OK, technically it’s a drupe, not a nut. It’s semantics.

The uses for the coconut go on but for now, let’s talk about making a two to three ingredient body bar with coconut oil. You’ll need:

  • One part extra virgin coconut oil
  • One part pure beeswax
  • Essential oil for fragrance

This is an easy recipe. Combine your coconut oil and beeswax in a saucepan over the stove and heat until completely melted. Add in your optional essential oil for fragrance. If coconut oil is a favorite of mine, rose products are a close second. I use rose oil for my body lotion because it smells so divine. Many people choose lavender or vanilla too. Add a few drips of oil to your melted mixture but don’t overdo it. Essential oil fragrance goes a long way.

Next, fill some muffin tins with your liquid mixture. I use the silicone trays because the soaps pop out so easily but the traditional tins will work too. You need to let the mixture set and harden. This will happen quick enough, but you can speed up the process by putting the trays in the refrigerator.

You can use these little bars in the shower, but it’s better to use them on clean skin to heal moisturize and keep it healthy. The way you use it on dry skin is my heating up the bar in your hand. Coconut oil will melt on contact with our bodies. Get the surface slick and run the bar over your body. Coconut oil and beeswax have wonderful healing properties as well, and you will love the way your skin feels.
